I was at a hotel room One day and noticed the low laying clouds hovering just beneath the tip of My. Fuji. I had my 14-24mm wide angle lens on my camera but from afar this didn’t make for a very pleasing photo as the clouds divided the mountain and its surrounding view in half. I decided to switch lenses and grabbed my 70-200mm telephoto, where I knew this would make for a much more attractive photo.
By focusing on a tighter crop of the tip of the mountain, I was able to bring more emphasis to the details of the mountainside. Forget the base of the mountain below the clouds because that didn’t add any more value to the image. By including some of the clouds at the bottom of this picture, I added a little more context as to what the weather was like that day. It also made for a dreamier image, making it seem like the entire mountain was covered in those clouds.
With just a quick lens change I was able to change the look and feel of this scene, which is just another reminder to always explore the different avenues at your disposal.
The purple and pink colours were brought out by the spectacular sunset nearby, which added to the overall mood of the image.
