We all know the horizon to be straight, but if you look at the photo above, you’ll see that the horizon in fact looks to be on an angle pointing down towards the centre of the image. But how can this be?
With so many distractions right on the horizon line, it makes it much more difficult to see where the actual horizon is. To further confuse the brain, the man-made dam is situated right under the horizon, but is placed in a way that it is on a slight angle downward. Since the two lines are so close together, and the actual horizon is hidden behind all the trees, our brain automatically thinks the man-made dam is the horizon line.
Try following this line all the way to the left of the image. You’ll totally lose where the horizon is because of this bridge that is also on an angle.
It’s all an illusion. And that’s what makes this image so intriguing.
