When you look at this photo, what’s the first thing that you see? Is it the flowers, or the coloured bags, or the number of silver seats lined along the table? Or perhaps it’s the chandelier, or the brink wall, or maybe even that awful sign indicating, “DANGER 13200 VOLTS” in red!
There’s a lot going on in this simple photo but the subject isn’t so clear.
This can work for and against your photograph depending on what you’re after. In this particular case, I didn’t mind the busyness within the frame. I wanted to juxtaposition the happy times at the wedding table by this scary and intimidating DANGER sign.
So what’s really happening in this photo?
I was standing outside the building, and planted my camera right up against the window. The DANGER sign is located behind me on another wall. It just so happened that because the window was so clean, and the lighting outside just right, the window reflected a lot of the building behind me.
This made for an interesting image, but can you imagine the feeling of those people who were about to sit there and eat dinner? They’re faced with this DANGER sign all night long.
Perhaps a curtain is in order for this wedding party!
