year's Norah Jones concert was held at Massey Hall in Toronto, a
much larger venue, yet still quaint in its own way. It was a good
concert, however, did not have the same effect as it did the previous
year. Maybe it was because of her hightened celebrity status, maybe
it was because of Kevin Breit, the guest guitarist, or maybe it was because
of all the flash photography that went on throughout the evening.
In either case, it didn't have that same effect on me as it did
before.
But
it was ok because I expected it to be that way. Sitting third row
from the front, near the center aisle, I was just as close to her
as I was last year, if not a touch closer. The one vast improvement
from last year was the backdrop and the lighting that changed from
song to song.
The
concert consisted of familar songs from her debut album and some
new songs - so she claims - although I've already heard her sing
many of them from other concert recordings. It was good, though,
to hear brand new songs like her cover of ACDC's Ride On.

Norah
seemed more comfortable being on stage now than she did last year,
although she did speak very few words in between songs. She even
jokingly said that Lee told her to talk more during her concerts.
My
only main complaint about this year's concert was Kevin Breit. Toronto
's very own guitarist made his guest appearance during her two-day
gig at Massey Hall. Only at times, it seemed like it was more his
concert than Norah's concert. He was a good player and all, but
still, the spotlight shone on him more often than necessary in my
opinion.
While
I could have stayed after the concert to get her picture and autograph,
I opted not to, partly because of my friends who just had to tease
me about doing so last year. :) In any case, with her stardom rising
in the last year, I walked by the crowd of eager fans knowing that
I had met her way before they even knew who she was.
