A friend of mine visited me today. Christina – who was my classmate back in highschool – lives a mere 10 minutes away from me. However, we see each other maybe once each year if we’re lucky. She came over and looked over some of my photos that I took at previous weddings. Somehow, looking at these photos led to looking at my photos from my European backpacking trip. After spending some time showing her my pictures, one thing led to another and the next thing you know, I was showing her a pop-up book that I had made for someone when I was in grade 8.
Although we never knew each other back then, it turns out we went to the same elementary school as well. Interesting. I thought, wow. That would be cool if I saw you in my grade 8 yearbook. I knew I had the yearbook somewhere but couldn’t exactly place it in my mind. Since my highschool yearbooks were laying on the bottom of my shelf, I decided to go through them instead. In doing so, I found my elementary school yearbook sitting on top. All dusty and old, it was there in all its glory.
We flipped through the book like little kids looking at a toy catalogue. We pointed at people trying to remember who they were and trying to tell their stories to each other. It was 16 years ago that we were in this school. Looking back at my old classmates I wondered what they were up to now. Those were the days.
Having talked about Greece this evening, we eventually got the craving to go have some Greek food. We went to Mr. Greek Express where I had my usual Pork Souvlaki Dinner for $7.40 plus tax. It was great! We stayed there at the table, talking for quite some time. Long enough for the restaurant to start closing up for the evening. It wasn’t even that late.
Nonetheless, it was good talking with you, Chrizzz, as it’s been a while. She’ll be moving sometime in the summer. Interestingly enough, she’ll be even closer to my house after she moves. I wonder if our encounters will still be a year’s apart?
Funny how things work out, isn’t it?
