I busted flickr!

Flickr screenshotI managed to screw up flickr pretty badly today. In less than 15 minutes I got two error messages (like the one shown here) and also managed to crash the thing yielding in an endless loop that would have gone for ever and ever and ever had I not clued in and stopped loading the page. Interesting.

In any case, I think I have decided to go for a Pro account on that site since I’ve been spending so much time on there lately. It’s fun. I like photos and so do people on there. So it’s a perfect match! :)

I have done some significant production on my inJapan magazine today. It feels good to finally get that ball going again. After a long delay, I have recently been more motivated to complete the publication. It’s looking good I must say!

It’s Oscar night. Does anyone know what happened? I don’t. I didn’t bother watching it. It doesn’t really matter. I’ll find out tomorrow morning in the paper anyway.

Have a nice week everyone!

New layout?

I spent pretty much the entire day trying to redo my homepage. I upgraded WordPress to version 1.5 and was hoping to get a new layout done by the end of the day as well. Looks like that didn’t happen. I managed to recreate my original layout and have about 80% ported to the new version so hopefully by the end of the weekend I will be up and running with the new version and my original layout. At the moment, none of my links on the right hand side will work so don’t bother clicking on the dates or categories.

In any case, that’s about all that happened today. That’s ok though since I left today open for just this. I also found out that the membership for a Pro account on flickr was quoted in US dollars and not Canadian, despite the company being Canadian. Tricky people they are.

There are rumours flying about that Google and/or Yahoo! is interested in buying out flickr. I’m not sure if this is good or bad. Nonetheless I think i will try and get a Pro account before any of these flying rumours prove true. I also read elsewhere that Google likes WordPress a lot and has been keeping a close eye on it for a while. Imagine that. Google, WordPress, and Flickr: all one big happy family. Something I don’t mind.

Flashback

A friend of mine visited me today. Christina – who was my classmate back in highschool – lives a mere 10 minutes away from me. However, we see each other maybe once each year if we’re lucky. She came over and looked over some of my photos that I took at previous weddings. Somehow, looking at these photos led to looking at my photos from my European backpacking trip. After spending some time showing her my pictures, one thing led to another and the next thing you know, I was showing her a pop-up book that I had made for someone when I was in grade 8.

Although we never knew each other back then, it turns out we went to the same elementary school as well. Interesting. I thought, wow. That would be cool if I saw you in my grade 8 yearbook. I knew I had the yearbook somewhere but couldn’t exactly place it in my mind. Since my highschool yearbooks were laying on the bottom of my shelf, I decided to go through them instead. In doing so, I found my elementary school yearbook sitting on top. All dusty and old, it was there in all its glory.

We flipped through the book like little kids looking at a toy catalogue. We pointed at people trying to remember who they were and trying to tell their stories to each other. It was 16 years ago that we were in this school. Looking back at my old classmates I wondered what they were up to now. Those were the days.

Having talked about Greece this evening, we eventually got the craving to go have some Greek food. We went to Mr. Greek Express where I had my usual Pork Souvlaki Dinner for $7.40 plus tax. It was great! We stayed there at the table, talking for quite some time. Long enough for the restaurant to start closing up for the evening. It wasn’t even that late.

Nonetheless, it was good talking with you, Chrizzz, as it’s been a while. She’ll be moving sometime in the summer. Interestingly enough, she’ll be even closer to my house after she moves. I wonder if our encounters will still be a year’s apart?

Funny how things work out, isn’t it?

Yahoo! or boo hoo?

Something strange happened with Yahoo! mail today. I was surfing around on various job boards trying to look for that perfect dream job. I went to open a new window to check my mail at Yahoo! Upon opening the new window, the Yahoo! mail screen appeared with a different screen that I was used to. It was divided into three different columns each with its own colour instead of the usual blue layout that I am so used to seeing. Even more strange was the fact that the login and password fields were already filled in.

Upon pressing enter, I was automatically forwarded to an inbox that wasn’t my own. It was someone else’s! However strange this was, this account seemed to be newly created as it had no mail in it except for the initial Welcome! message from Yahoo! congratulating you for getting your first email on that account.

I didn’t know who’s account this was and I now forget what the username was. I have never seen it before in my life though. I logged off and was able to get back to my own mailbox.

As strange as this may be, it is kind of scary to think I was forwarded to someone else’s email account. What if perhaps someone else in the world was accidentally forwarded to your Yahoo! mail? Could this have happened? Who knows. And even if you do find out, it’ll probably be too late for you to do anything. You never know how malicious people can get when they have access to confidential information. Let’s just hope for the best, shall we?

Despite this, I still won’t use Hotmail. Why? That’s easy. Because Hotmail sucks, that’s why.

Can I park here or what?

It’s because of this “Except by permit” sign that was located all the way down on the far side of the block, that I got a $30 parking ticket with NO voluntary payment amount.

I went back to the crime scene today to check things out and all the way down the block I saw this sign. I arrived at my car at 12:30am so I was 29 minutes late. Ack! Now I have to pay.

I’m not sure why but Susan thinks I got a job recently. I didn’t… however I did have a nice time talking with some editorial designers, photo editors, and their managers today at the Toronto Star. I showed them my magazines, which they were all very impressed with. Sadly they couldn’t do anything about my looking for a full time placement. I did get a few pointers on how to try and make it into this industry though.
